Excerpt from Catalogue of Miami University: Including Members of the Board of Trustees and Faculty; 1809-1892 The publication of this Alumni and Former Student Catalogue is in response to a general desire among the alumni and friends of the University to secure and preserve in accessible form a succinct account of the alumni and former students from the earliest days to the present. The work was undertaken during the year 1890 and has been resumed throughout the present year. The effort has been made to secure full and accurate accounts of all students who have ever enrolled, but on account of the great amount of work that had to be done in gathering the material for the alumni, it was impossible to give as much attention to the former students as this department should have received. Hence the list of former students concerning whom information is given is somewhat limited, but we hope that the impetus given to the work in this volume will enable us to soon collect a pretty full account of all. Many excellent sketches of graduates have been received, which, we regret to say, it is impossible to use in their entirety in a catalogue. All the material of this character that has been gathered will be kept on file, and it is hoped that in the near future we shall be able to publish a volume of early history that will give a full account of the University and her men. We desire to express our obligation and thanks to the friends who have so kindly and generously helped us in gathering this material.
